Data protection at a glance

• No account is required to use RunFromHere. An optional account syncs your unlocked regions and run history between your devices.
• Routes are generated on your device from installed region packs; Sopamo does not receive your planned routes. Sopamo receives your run history only if you sign in to the optional account.
• The Android and iOS apps do not use analytics, advertising identifiers, cookies, remote push tokens, or third-party crash-reporting services.
• Notifications are local device notifications for guided runs and region downloads; iPhone can also show a Live Activity during navigation.

Use of this website

runfromhere.app is a static website hosted on Cloudflare Pages. It does not provide user accounts or web forms.

When the website is requested, Cloudflare may process technical connection data such as IP address, request time, requested URL, referrer, and user agent to deliver and protect the site. This processing is based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR; our legitimate interest is secure, reliable, and efficient website delivery. Cloudflare may process this data outside the EU/EEA under applicable transfer safeguards and retains it according to its own policies.

Cloudflare provides aggregate page-view and performance statistics through a JavaScript beacon. The beacon does not use analytics cookies or browser storage.

Links to the App Store and Google Play can contain a campaign label identifying the originating page and, for localized pages, its language. Apple and Google use this label in aggregate store reports to help us understand which pages lead to app downloads. The campaign parameters do not contain your location, route data or a unique visitor identifier. The store operators process visits under their own privacy policies.

Email links only open your local email application. Sopamo receives personal data only if you choose to send a message. The website itself does not submit or store the contents of that message.

Data stored on your device

RunFromHere stores the following app data locally, so the app works without an account.

• Last route start, including the selected coordinate. If you used current location as the start, that coordinate can be stored as the last route start.
• Route distance and preference settings such as quiet streets, fewer crossings, and off-road paths.
• Home region, installed region IDs, paid region assignments, pending purchase state, and store transaction or assignment identifiers needed to restore purchases.
• Downloaded map and routing files for installed offline region packs.
• Your run history: start and end time, duration, distance, the route and the GPS track recorded during guided runs on the phone.
• If you sign in: the session token, your account details, and which runs and purchases still need to be synced. Signing out removes the session and account details; your run history stays on the device.
• An unfinished navigation snapshot and short-lived route data needed to resume navigation or transfer the active route to a paired watch. This active state is removed after completion or an explicit stop.

Location and guided runs

Precise location is requested only when you use current location to suggest a home region, choose your current position as a start point, or start live guidance. During user-started navigation, background location may be used so progress and cues continue while the screen is locked or another app is visible. Location is processed on your phone and, when watch navigation is active, on your paired watch to match a region, place you on the route, calculate progress, and provide cues. Sopamo never receives your live location. Completed runs, including their recorded GPS track, reach Sopamo only if you sign in to the optional account. Apple Maps or Google location and map services may process device and map-request data under the platform provider's terms.

Region downloads

The app downloads the public region catalog and selected region packs from Cloudflare. During these requests, Cloudflare may process technical connection data such as IP address, request time, requested file, and user agent. The app requests region IDs and pack files, not precise GPS coordinates.

Purchases

Paid region unlocks use Google Play Billing on Android and Apple StoreKit on iPhone. Google or Apple processes payment and store-account data. The app provides the store with the product ID and a device-generated region-assignment identifier so an owned non-consumable region slot can restore the same assigned region without a RunFromHere account. Sopamo does not receive your payment-card details in the app. If you sign in to the optional account, the app also uploads the purchase record signed by Google Play or the App Store (transaction and product ID, assigned region) so the region unlocks on your other devices and in the web app.

Optional account

You can sign in with Apple or Google to use your unlocked regions on all your devices (Android, iPhone, the web app at app.runfromhere.app and RunFromHere in ChatGPT) and to keep your run history in sync. RunFromHere works fully without an account.

For the account, Sopamo stores: an account ID; for each sign-in method the provider (Apple or Google), the user ID the provider assigns to RunFromHere, the email address it shares (with Apple this can be a private relay address) and the method's free home region; the store purchases you upload; the runs you record (start and end time, duration, distance, planned distance, whether you finished, region, route shape, the route and the recorded GPS track); and for each signed-in device or browser a hashed session token with the time it was created and last used. You never give RunFromHere a password; Apple or Google confirms who you are.

In the web app, signing in sets one strictly necessary cookie that holds your session; signing out removes it. When the sign-in buttons are shown, your browser loads the sign-in scripts of Apple and Google, which lets them process technical connection data such as your IP address. The sign-in itself takes place with Apple or Google under their privacy policies.

If you connect RunFromHere in ChatGPT, OpenAI receives what you allow the connection to read: your email address, your unlocked regions and, if you allow it, a summary of your recent runs (start time, duration, distance, whether you finished, region); ChatGPT can also save your free home region. OpenAI processes this data under its own privacy policy. You can disconnect ChatGPT in the account settings.

You can remove sign-in methods, disconnect ChatGPT and delete the account at any time in the app under Settings > Account or in the web app. Deleting the account removes all account data listed above from our database right away; copies in our database backups are overwritten within 30 days. A run you delete keeps only its ID and start time while the account exists, so your other devices learn about the deletion. Sessions end after 180 days without use.

Web app and ChatGPT

The web app at app.runfromhere.app requires the optional account and calculates routes in your browser, like the phone apps. It stores settings, downloaded region packs and a copy of your account details in your browser's storage. Cloudflare delivers the web app and may process technical connection data as described for this website.

RunFromHere in ChatGPT shows the planner inside ChatGPT. OpenAI processes your conversation, including any start point you mention there, under its own privacy policy. Start points that ChatGPT passes to the planner go through our server without being stored. Routes are still calculated on your device.

In ChatGPT you can also choose one free home region without connecting an account. For that, Sopamo stores the anonymous user ID that ChatGPT assigns to you for RunFromHere together with the chosen region; ChatGPT does not tell us who you are. If you connect a RunFromHere account later, both become part of that account. To have this data deleted without an account, email hallo@sopamo.de.

Notifications, Live Activities, and watches

The app can show local notifications for an active guided run and region-pack download progress. iPhone can show a Live Activity for active navigation. If you use a paired Wear OS watch or Apple Watch, route geometry, route progress, the active cue, and current runner position can be transferred to that watch while guidance is active. Apple Watch can additionally use its own location for a responsive map display.

Optional feedback

If you choose Send feedback, the app opens an external Typeform page. Loading that page lets Typeform process technical connection data such as your IP address, request time, browser information, and requested URL. If you submit the form, Typeform and Sopamo process the feedback and any contact details you voluntarily provide so we can evaluate or answer it. Feedback is kept only as long as needed to handle it and meet legal obligations. You can use the app without sending feedback.

Recipients and service providers

• Cloudflare provides the public region-pack catalog and files, hosts the web app and stores the optional account as our processor.
• Google provides Android location APIs, Wear OS data transport, Google Play Billing and Sign in with Google.
• Apple provides iOS location and map services, StoreKit purchases, Live Activities, Apple Watch communication and Sign in with Apple.
• A paired Wear OS watch or Apple Watch can receive active guidance data when you use watch guidance.
• Typeform provides the optional external feedback form.
• OpenAI receives account data only if you connect RunFromHere in ChatGPT.

International transfers

Cloudflare, Google, Apple, OpenAI and Typeform are globally operating providers. Technical connection data, data of the optional account, store data, and data related to platform services, sign-in, watch transport, a ChatGPT connection, or optional feedback may be processed outside the EU/EEA, including in the USA. Where this happens, the transfer is based on an adequacy decision such as the EU-US Data Privacy Framework for certified providers or on appropriate safeguards such as EU standard contractual clauses.

Purposes and legal bases

We process app data to provide requested app functionality and purchases, Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR, and to keep downloads, billing restoration, and app operation secure and reliable, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. The optional account, syncing between your devices and a ChatGPT connection are provided at your request, Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR. The legitimate interests are secure delivery of region files, restoring purchases without a RunFromHere account, and reliable app operation. Optional feedback is processed based on your voluntary submission, Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR where consent is required. Optional platform permissions can be revoked in system settings.

Required data and consequences

The app only needs data for the feature you use. Without precise location you cannot use current-location home-region detection, current-location starts, or live guidance. Without network access you cannot download region packs, load the region catalog, or use Google Play Billing or Apple StoreKit. Without the applicable store service you cannot buy or restore paid regions. Without a paired supported watch, watch guidance is unavailable.

Retention

Local app data remains on your device until you overwrite it, clear app data, or uninstall the app; active navigation state is removed after completion or an explicit stop. Without an account, Sopamo keeps no server-side profile, route archive or run history. Account data is kept until you delete it or the account; sessions end after 180 days without use. Google Play, Apple, Cloudflare, OpenAI, and Typeform retain data they process according to their own policies and legal duties. Voluntary feedback held by Sopamo is deleted when it is no longer needed to handle the feedback unless legal retention duties apply.

Automated decisions and profiling

RunFromHere does not use automated decision-making within the meaning of Art. 22 GDPR and does not create advertising, analytics, or behavior profiles.

Your rights

You can request access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and object to processing where applicable. You can also lodge a complaint with any competent data protection supervisory authority. For Sopamo in Schleswig-Holstein, this includes the Unabhängiges Landeszentrum für Datenschutz Schleswig-Holstein, mail@datenschutzzentrum.de. With an account, you can view and delete your data directly in the app or web app. Without one, we may need information from you to identify data related to a request.
